Welcome! I would like to share some of my plans for the new year with
you.
Please look over the Gilroy Unified School District Algebra Standards
and the year-long curriculum plans which are found on this website. The Algebra I
plan may change slightly to accommodate the needs of students as we progress through
the standards being addressed, but we will be generally pace according to this plan.
Students should write down daily assignments in their school planner, which South Valley provides for every student.
The class will use the McDougall-Littell Algebra 1 text. Our textbook provides online
support at classzone.com.
The Animated Algebra page at this site provides interactive activities that correlate to
our lessons in the form of examples of how math is used in the real world.
This site also provides practice quizzes for each lesson on the Hometutor page as well as
self scoring exercises.
In accordance with school policy, each student is required to have
school supplies available for use everyday. These materials include a math
binder (one inch, paper or plastic cover), pencils, and paper. Additionally, I
would like students to have a pad of graph paper, colored pencils, a ruler,
and a red pen for correcting. Math work must be done in black pencil as this allows for easy
revision. On all assignments students must show their work, not
just answers, for full credit.
Grades are posted regularly on Schoolloop. I do accept make-up work
(get missing assignments from your schoolloop student report).
Students must be aware that grades will be penalized for missing
assignments more than than 2 weeks late. All make-up work must be turned in 5 days before the grading period
ends to provide time for grading and posting. It is the student's
responsibility to check grade postings and turn in make-up work in a timely manner.
No makeup work will be accepted after the end of each quarter. Algebra I is a rigorous math
course and completion of daily assignments is critical for success.
Assignments and class announcements can be found on Schoolloop.
Students should keep all completed work in their math binder.
We will clean out the binder at the end of each the quarter.
Until then, all completed work and in-progress work should be kept in a neat, organized binder.
Math classroom budgets have been severely cut due to the funding reductions our district is experiencing.
Your donations would be greatly appreciated and support our goal of 'Success For All'
students.
A list of much needed supplies follows:
8 1/2 x11 white copy paper,
8 1/2 x11 graph paper,
EXPO whiteboard markers(black),
Colored marker pens to use for poster work (not permanent markers),
Printer Ink (HP #28, black).
Thank You in advance for your generosity!
I am excited to be your student's math teacher and look forward to seeing you
all at Back To School Night. If you have any concerns or comments, please leave me a
phone message at 848-7101, extension 8254, e-mail me at Sharon.Redford@GUSD.k12.ca.us,
or visit me in room D-3 after school.
